Composer in Residence Program
The Turkish American Orchestra Composers-in-Residence program offers emerging and established composers the opportunity to collaborate closely with Utar Artun, TAO Artistic Board Member and Composer in Residence, to create new orchestral works that blend Turkish influences with a symphonic language.
Up to six composers will be selected for the residency. Each composer will:
Receive a commission to create an original orchestral work or arrangement inspired by Turkish musical traditions.
Engage in direct mentorship and collaboration with Utar Artun throughout the creative process.
Have their commissioned works premiered by the Turkish American Orchestra at its February 2026 and May 2026 concerts in New York City.
Receive archival and professional video recordings of their performances.
Be awarded a commission fee in recognition of their contribution.
Scores will be reviewed by the TAO Artistic Leadership Committee. Evaluation will be based on orchestration skill, originality, and potential to contribute to TAO’s mission. Selected composers will be notified by October 13, 2025.
